First promising assessment for the European Ecolabel stationery

The EU Ecolabel for converted paper products is the only official pan-European Ecolabel committed to reducing the impact of converted paper products on the environment. Established in 2014, it offers a single European reference for eco-responsible converted paper products, including stationery products, paper envelopes and paper carrier bags. It is part of the EU Ecolabel scheme, which is managed by the European Commission and by authorities in every EU Member State, and is a voluntary and transparent scheme certified by an independent third party.

Rondo AG based in Allschwil near Basel (Switzerland), part of the international Körber Group in Hamburg, is conducting the world’s first beta test in the area of pharmaceutical packaging with the Primefire 106. The digital printing system of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) has been installed at Rondo since April 2018, where it is the final piece in the packaging specialist’s Supply on Demand solution. “The trends in the pharmaceutical industry are heading towards ever declining runs and shorter delivery times in response to personalized medicine, increasing language and country versions and much shorter delivery times for medicines,” confirms Joachim Hoeltz, CEO of Rondo AG. “Our production consists entirely of secondary packaging. Through process automation and close IT integration we offer our customers a just-in-time service and by doing so help them to optimize their own supply chain.”

Coding consumables loyalty programs launched to improve uptime and costs

Markem-Imaje announces a selection of programs designed to help manufacturers maximize business continuity and cost control by facilitating the use of an optimized selection of coding consumables. Printers add codes to packages using consumables such as inks and ribbons. However, many manufacturers make false economies by using consumables which are not calibrated for the selected printer. They end up using more consumables than they would with perfectly matched supplies, face higher maintenance bills, and scrap more products due to poorly printed codes.

The 2017 Financial Statement for SACMI Imola shows higher sales and an increased gross operating margin with respect to 2016. Like its parent company, the Group as a whole closed the year by improving on the previous year’s performance, with sales touching 1.434 billion euro; the net consolidated result was over 35 million, also on the rise compared to 2016.
